Taking a trip to good old Blighty? Then you’ll need to buy some British Pounds, pound sterling, a few quid, moolah or some nicker...they’re all different ways to describe the same GBP currency. There are so many quaint and wonderful things to do and history to uncover in Britain. Visit a centuries old castle, stay in a thatched-roof cottage, ride a big red London bus, trek the Scottish Highlands or simply enjoy a traditional English Tea complete with scones and knitted tea cosies. Whatever you decide, you’ll definitely need to convert some AUD to GBP.

Load it up and lock it in

The great thing about travelling with a Qantas Pay card is that you can lock in the exchange rate of your desired currency prior to traveling3 - up to 10 exchange rates at one time4. Meaning you’ll always know exactly how much money you have, even when visiting more than one destination. Even better, you’ll earn Qantas Points on the foreign currency you spend. All you need to do is load your money onto your Qantas Pay card, via the Qantas Money mobile app or website. You can choose from instant load, bank transfer, or BPAY®, whichever suits you.

When you’re going from AUD to GBP, it’s good to understand how the currency is valued. There are four banknotes and eight coins (for pounds and pence) in use.

The Royal Mint also issue silver commemorative coins. These are still classed as legal tender but they are more of a collector's item than shopping money. In fact, it’s very unlikely that they’ll be accepted in banks or shops. These are £100, £50, £20, 25p.

London

London is definitely calling. Home to over a thousand years of history, you’ll never have a dull moment once you’re here. Start off with the big ticket items such as Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, the Tower of London, Oxford and Regent Streets, Madame Tussauds, Tate Modern and Tate Britain. Take a ride in a black cab, on a big red bus, or hop on the tube. Then take yourself for a Ruby Murray (curry) on Brick Lane, before you head off to The West End for a show. Of course, there’s so much more to see and do, you’ve just got to work out how long you’re going to spend there.

It also gave the world the likes of Oasis, The Stone Roses and Take That. You’ll be spoilt for things to see and do from an eclectic mix of restaurants and bars, to a variety of museums and galleries. Getting around is easy with buses, trams and trains but if walking is more your thing, the city is compact and ideal to discover on foot.
